Rising damp
Building cancer
Rising damp, serious illness of buildings:
At the origin of the degradation of paints, coatings, salt outlets (saltpeter) and bad smells. It can be present on all buildings that do not have a crawl space (it must be 80 cm long and ventilated) and no waterproof macaws (waterproof applied to the foundations for construction).
The phenomenon has an impact on the building in a visual way and above all a direct impact on the structure of the building. The rising damp, also known as ascensional moisture, brings up water and mineral salts through the foundations of the supporting walls.
Take the example of the old building in ruins:
In a stone wall, the water rises into the wall through the joints, the joints will fade over time which will cause the bottom stones to collapse and this subsidence will generate degradation on the top of the building. This phenomenon is visible after several years and/or centuries.!
The building is weakened by the hair lift and then damaged by
the infiltration of rainwater and all the consequences related to
humidity.
How does this get on my house?
Of course, there is no question of talking about the same consequences for buildings built in the 1970s. However, the link between the hair lift that weakens the construction and the seismic movements of everyday life (movements that we do not necessarily feel) are causing cracking and degradation more and more important in the upper part of the building.
What are the consequences for my heritage?
Additional moisture:
There are other types of moisture, such as rainwater infiltration. Rainwater seeps through the cracks in the building, visible infiltration areas will be able to be treated while non-visible areas will be difficult to detect. (The presence of medium- to long-term moisture generates mould, fungi, merules, etc.)
The risk is that you will not notice all the problems caused and that your renovation bill will increase as the problems go.
The solution is to have a complete diagnosis performed to study your building as a whole.
We have an obligation to achieve results in our treatment of hair lifts.
